What to Expect: Minors Baseball (Hybrid Pitching Model)

The Minors Division is designed to bridge the gap between introductory baseball and full kid-pitch play, focusing on player development, confidence, and game enjoyment. New this season, this division uses a hybrid pitching model that combines a sling-style pitching machine with player pitching to create a balanced and positive learning environment.

The pitching machine provides consistent, hittable pitches that allow batters to develop proper mechanics, timing, and confidence at the plate, while keeping games moving and maximizing action. Player pitching is incorporated to continue building fundamental pitching skills, game awareness, and responsibility on the mound.

This blended approach reduces prolonged walks and strikeouts, increases balls put in play, and ensures all players stay engaged - hitting, fielding, and learning throughout each game. As the season progresses, emphasis shifts toward increased player pitching, helping athletes prepare for the transition to full kid-pitch divisions.

The Minors Division prioritizes skill development, safety, and fun, while fostering a supportive environment where players can grow at their own pace and experience success both offensively and defensively.

FAQ: Why Did Harris Make This Change?

Why is the Minors Division moving to a hybrid pitching model?

The hybrid model is being introduced to better support player development, confidence, and enjoyment of the game. At this age and skill level, exclusively kid-pitch games can result in inconsistent pitching, extended at-bats, and limited action for many players.

How does the pitching machine help players?

The sling-style pitching machine delivers consistent, game-like pitches that allow hitters to work on timing, mechanics, and confidence. This leads to more balls put in play, more learning opportunities on defense, and a more engaging game experience for everyone.

Will players still learn how to pitch?

Yes. Player pitching remains an important part of the Minors Division. The hybrid format allows players to develop pitching skills in a lower-pressure environment while avoiding fatigue and frustration that can come from extended innings.

How does this prepare players for kid-pitch baseball?

The Minors Division is a transitional level. As the season progresses, increased emphasis is placed on player pitching to ensure athletes are prepared - both physically and mentally - for full kid-pitch divisions.

Is this change about speeding up games?

While the hybrid model does help keep games moving, the primary goal is development and enjoyment. More action, more learning, and more positive experiences help players grow and stay excited about baseball.

Will this make games more fun?

That’s the goal. By reducing walks and strikeouts and increasing opportunities to hit, field, and make plays, the hybrid format creates a more balanced, active, and enjoyable game for players of all skill levels.

2026 MINORS BASEBALL (8-9U)

Minors Baseball - Hybrid Pitching (8-9 year olds):

The Minors Division will use a hybrid pitching model that combines a sling-style pitching machine with player pitching. This approach promotes confidence at the plate, increased action in the field, and steady skill development for both hitters and pitchers. Consistent pitches help players refine fundamentals while gradually preparing them for full kid-pitch baseball in future divisions.
