Join Us...

Hey All,

Harris Baseball Softball is looking to expand and include an indoor workout facility for all of our Rec park members, travel teams/players and All-Star Program to use year-round to continue their development. Indoor facility would allow all park members to sign up based on availability 30 minutes sessions to work in batting cages or fielding areas. Rec Teams/Travel Teams/All-Star Teams would be allowed One weekday and One weekend two-hour time slot per week for entire calendar year. We would also contract with as many qualified instructors for hitting, fielding, pitching or catching. We would allow them to use facility to earn income provided that they discount lessons to any Harris Park Member and host and run up to 8 hours of free clinic to park members.

Being a non-profit, we are seeking help from our local community partners and/or local benefactor that could help assist in obtaining financing for such project.

On Monday Sept 23rd at 7p at the Ryan Morris Pavilion at Harris, we will have an open disuccion on pursuing an Indoor Facilty for Harris Baseball Softball.  I believe this will help increase our park membership for our Rec Program and Travel Program.  By having a successful and profitable indoor facility, it will allow us to pursure possible projects such as, new bathrooms, side walks, paved parking lots and other future growth projects for the park!

Look forward to hearing your input,

Shaun Dralle

Harris Softball News...

Good morning!

My name is Dave Smith and I’m the newly elected Softball Commissioner at Harris.  Having been a part of the league for several years I desired to apply some of the experiences I’ve gained as a rec and all-star coach to help influence the future direction of our park.  I've since happily discovered that the Harris board is passionate and focused on helping Harris reach it's full potential.

The time has come to again make Harris the premier rec league in the area.  That said, you will immediately see changes that will positively impact parent/player experiences at the corner of Brick and Currant.  Not only will we provide more education and extended skill enhancement opportunities for our rec league players, we’ll recruit passionate All-Star coaches and players to take part in the Babe Ruth Tournaments.  Currently various park improvements are being reviewed that allow for more practice time and more efficient scheduling while providing avenues for extended play via All-Star and travel program opportunities.  We’ll also host clinics to support the rec league side so some of our girls aren’t going 8 months without a glove or bat in their hands!

To those of you who’ve left the park, you no longer have to drive further to see your children reach their potential without making year-long commitments.  As evidenced by the strong numbers at the park this year and the amazing All-Star tournament performances by our youngest teams on both the baseball and softball sides, know that Harris will be the league of choice in 2020.  To our current patrons, know that we were with you this year and are cognizant of what we need to accomplish to take this to the next level.  With that said, I appreciate any feedback on what you’d like to see at Harris next year to improve your park experience.

To start, we’ll be having a fall softball clinic for ages 6-12 on Sunday afternoons on October 6th, 13th, and 20th.   This is a special opportunity for new, current, and returning players to not only enhance their skills but meet future coaches as well as peers playing at the high school level.  Registration will start soon and we are currently reaching out to coaches and players who are available on these dates to assist at the clinics.

I hope to see all of you at the Piper Dwigan’s ‘Heart of a Champion’ tournament this weekend!  #playforpiper

Regards,

Dave Smith- Harris Softball Commissioner

Harris/IUSB Partnership...

As we’re sure you’ve noticed, there’s been a lot of activity on Field 7, “The Big Field”.  Harris Baseball Softball is partnering with the IUSB Titans Baseball Team for their upcoming season!  They’ve added some much needed life back into Field 7, including field improvements, new paint, banners, and windscreens!  They’ve turned Field 7 into a collegiate level playing surface and have more work planned!

As a part of the agreement, IUSB is running a fall clinic, September 29th, for 8 to 13-year-old baseball players.  Registrations for that clinic will be live soon.  IUSB has also invited all park patrons to come cheer on the Titans free of charge!  They are practicing at the park most weeknights, and their game schedule can be found here:  http://www.iusbtitans.com/schedule/0/14.php

There are a couple notable games coming up at Harris:

September 27th: Double header versus Lake Michigan College, first game starts at 1pm

October 5th: Double header versus Bethel University, first game starts at 1pm

The next time you’re at the park, give Field 7 a look and stay to cheer on the Titans!  We’re confident this will be a great partnership that will add benefit to all of our Harris Park Patrons!
