As the dust settles from another great weekend of softball in remembrance of our little girl, who we miss so much, our family would like to express our gratitude for the great community of softball families we’re blessed to be a part of! This year was yet another huge success! We’d like to thank everyone first and foremost for their attendance, whatever your role may have been. We truly appreciate you. 💕 This tournament and fundraiser wouldn’t be anything without your support!
Secondly, we cannot express enough how much we appreciate the continuing support of Amy Stauffacher Schramski, Shaun Dralle, Dan Foster, everyone at Harris Baseball/Softball and the unwavering love and support from our Penn Softball families in helping us keep this tournament a success every year and aiding us in bringing this community together in the spirit of competition!
We’d also like to thank Allison Adams for devoting so much time and effort into trying to capture every wonderful moment from this tournament with her amazing photography skills! She was the one carrying a ladder and photography gear that would rival the set up of any photojournalist from National Geographic.
Finally, we would like to recognize all the players and teams that participated. Your passion, dedication and drive for competition is what builds this community. Without your discipline and passion, this sport would be nothing. As we walked around the park this weekend, we were so happy to see so many smiling faces, teams cheering each other on so, so many #playforpiper bracelets on the field. Whether or not your team was victorious this weekend, we consider you all champions this weekend. This tournament brought out the best in you. Coming together for one cause is bigger than any trophy we could’ve handed out. Our hearts are full because of you!
Talks for next years tournament have already began and we’re so happy to be able to continue honoring Piper’s life with all of the people and players we love. 🥎💕🌈🦄💕🥎
My name is Dave Smith and I’m the newly elected Softball Commissioner at Harris. Having been a part of the league for several years I desired to apply some of the experiences I’ve gained as a rec and all-star coach to help influence the future direction of our park. I've since happily discovered that the Harris board is passionate and focused on helping Harris reach it's full potential.
The time has come to again make Harris the premier rec league in the area. That said, you will immediately see changes that will positively impact parent/player experiences at the corner of Brick and Currant. Not only will we provide more education and extended skill enhancement opportunities for our rec league players, we’ll recruit passionate All-Star coaches and players to take part in the Babe Ruth Tournaments. Currently various park improvements are being reviewed that allow for more practice time and more efficient scheduling while providing avenues for extended play via All-Star and travel program opportunities. We’ll also host clinics to support the rec league side so some of our girls aren’t going 8 months without a glove or bat in their hands!
To those of you who’ve left the park, you no longer have to drive further to see your children reach their potential without making year-long commitments. As evidenced by the strong numbers at the park this year and the amazing All-Star tournament performances by our youngest teams on both the baseball and softball sides, know that Harris will be the league of choice in 2020. To our current patrons, know that we were with you this year and are cognizant of what we need to accomplish to take this to the next level. With that said, I appreciate any feedback on what you’d like to see at Harris next year to improve your park experience.
To start, we’ll be having a fall softball clinic for ages 6-12 on Sunday afternoons on October 6th, 13th, and 20th. This is a special opportunity for new, current, and returning players to not only enhance their skills but meet future coaches as well as peers playing at the high school level. Registration will start soon and we are currently reaching out to coaches and players who are available on these dates to assist at the clinics.
I hope to see all of you at the Piper Dwigan’s ‘Heart of a Champion’ tournament this weekend! #playforpiper
